“OpenStreetMap has a very high-quality road network in 30 large North American cities.”
Lyft drove thousands of miles over three months to check whether the free map was good enough. It was. The new LaGuardia roads showed up on OpenStreetMap faster than on many paid maps. Volunteers did that mapping for nothing. Lyft built its business on top of it and now gets a paper out of grading their work.
