Meta’s chief AI scientist says fears of AI are “preposterously ridiculous” and that research should not be kept under lock and key. Meta lists human-level AI as a goal, so its top researcher calling for fewer locks is a business position. His safety plan is that the AI will “run on a data centre somewhere with an off switch”. Nobody switches off the product that pays the bills.
