“One of the most realistic statue of the era was unearthed, standing at a height of 2.3 meters and featuring a lifelike facial expression in Karahantepe.”
Göbeklitepe is about 12,000 years old. The 2023 digs ran in 9 areas and also turned up a life-sized limestone boar with red, white and black pigment, the first painted sculpture from its period. The seated Karahantepe figure has carved ribs, spine and shoulder bones and sits beside a vulture on the wall. These people carved 2.3 meter statues before they made pottery.
