“June Huh wasn’t interested in mathematics until a chance encounter during his sixth year of college.”
Huh quit high school at 16 to write poetry and found math by accident in his sixth year of college. Hironaka’s class started with about 200 students and was down to five within weeks. He now does about three hours of focused work a day. The education system that would have written him off is the same one handing him the medal.
