Ubuntu and Intel are dropping Spectre mitigations from Intel’s GPU compute runtime for up to 20% more speed. Intel’s own binaries already ship that way. The bug report admits it could open an unknown avenue for attack. Security is a setting that gets turned off once the benchmark matters.
