IIHS looked at 17,897 pedestrian crashes. Hoods taller than 40 inches are about 45 percent more likely to kill. The average US passenger vehicle has grown 8 inches taller and 1,000 pounds heavier in 30 years. The people inside bought the height. The people in the crosswalk pay for it.
