“This app shows that biometric technology has moved well beyond just confirming someone’s identity. In the hands of ICE officers, it’s becoming a way to retrieve vast amounts of data about a person on demand just by pointing a camera in their face.”
ICE agents now carry a smartphone app called Mobile Fortify that matches faces against 200 million images pulled from DHS, State Department, CBP, FBI, and state law enforcement databases. Point your phone camera at someone’s face, get back their name, nationality, alien number, and deportation status. They’re already talking about adding commercial databases to the mix. The entire system is designed to make it irrelevant whether a person cooperates with law enforcement or not. Just aim and shoot.
