“I found 22 security lockouts, 7 policy lockouts, and 3 with too few details to tell.”
Kaufman counted 32 Google lockouts on Hacker News going back to 2008. The most common cause was a backup phone or recovery email the owner no longer had. That sample only counts people loud enough to post, and some got back in only after making noise on HN or Twitter. Gmail, Fi, saved passwords and every “Sign in with Google” hang on one account. Lose it and your recourse is going viral.
