“Going forward, we will be relicensing our core open source projects (Grafana, Grafana Loki, and Grafana Tempo) from the Apache License 2.0 to the Affero General Public License (AGPL) v3.”
Grafana watched Elastic get eaten by AWS and picked the license cloud giants hate most that is still open source. AGPL forces anyone running a modified service to publish the changes. Amazon’s lawyers treat that like poison. It is the honest version of what Elastic did with the SSPL, and nobody has to pretend it’s not open source.
