“Sales of table saws will decrease, resulting in unemployment, and the government could be creating a monopoly.”
Table saws cause about 30,000 blade-contact injuries a year in the US and about 4,000 amputations. SawStop has sold a working blade brake since 2004. The Power Tool Institute, speaking for Bosch, DeWalt and Milwaukee, calls requiring it an overreach. The industry’s own voluntary blade guard standard from 2010 produced no discernible change in injuries. More than 10 amputations a day is the price of their margins.
