“Last year’s report bragged about successfully defending Android’s crown jewel from 1.43 million apps, but this year’s report claims a whopping 2.28 million privacy-violating apps were stopped dead in their tracks.”
Google blocked 2.28 million bad apps in 2023, up from 1.43 million the year before, and banned 333,000 developer accounts. That is a 60% jump in garbage aimed at its store. Google grades its own work in this annual report and calls the bigger number a win. Play Protect detected another five million new malicious apps. The report counts the ones it caught.
