Tom McKay left Gizmodo in 2022 and kept his Slack account by renaming it Slackbot with a Cyrillic “о” in place of the Latin “o.” Slack blocks the real name and accepts the lookalike. Nobody in management noticed a departed employee posting as a bot for months. Offboarding at Gizmodo was a profile picture away from failing completely.
