“During an open commission meeting Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission voted unanimously to enforce laws around the Right to Repair, thereby ensuring that US consumers will be able to repair their own electronic and automotive devices.”
The vote was 5 to 0. The law it enforces, Magnuson-Moss, has banned “warranty void if removed” tricks since 1975. Manufacturers ignored it for decades because nobody made them follow it. A vote is a promise. The test is the first big company the FTC actually sues.
