At least ten Florida cities and counties, including Miami, Orlando, and Fort Lauderdale, had their own climate goals. DeSantis just wiped them out in one bill and dressed it up as protecting “energy security and economic interests.” This is preemption, plain and simple. The state doesn’t want a climate policy of its own, so it made sure nobody underneath it could have one either.
