The Copyright Office now lets owners and technicians bypass the software locks on Taylor’s machines, which left almost 15% of McDonald’s ice cream machines out of service. Selling the bypass tool is still illegal, so franchisees get permission and no means. The broader exemption for commercial and industrial equipment died even with the FTC and DOJ backing it. Taylor keeps its service calls.
