“Mozilla’s leadership is directionless and flailing because it’s never had to do, or be, anything else besides relying on Google funding.”
Firefox has been getting steadily faster since late 2023 according to Phoronix benchmarks. The browser is fine. The problem is Mozilla’s leadership keeps chasing failed monetization schemes instead of doing the one thing they are supposed to do. Original Firefox co-developer Jamie Zawinski put it plainly: Mozilla should focus on being the reference implementation web browser and “a jugular-snapping attack dog on standards committees.” Instead they keep trying to be a tech company, which they are not and never will be.
