“These new protections can reduce the number of uniquely fingerprinted users to just 20%, down from over 60% of users that can be fingerprinted without any protections.”
Firefox 145 rolled out expanded defenses against browser fingerprinting, the tracking technique that identifies users through unique device and software signatures. The browser now adds random noise to canvas images, only reports standard OS fonts, spoofs screen resolution and processor core counts, and reports touch support uniformly. Currently available only in Private Browsing and Strict Enhanced Tracking Protection modes, Mozilla plans to expand these protections to regular browsing after further testing.
