Firefox 157 will include JPEG XL by default on all platforms

Google shipped JPEG XL behind a flag in Chrome, then ripped it out in 2022 citing lack of ecosystem interest, right as it was pushing its own AVIF. Mozilla wrote a fresh decoder in Rust and now has feature parity including animation and progressive display. The format was never the problem. The problem was one browser vendor deciding which image formats the web gets.
