A Cruise robotaxi drove toward live fire hoses on January 21, and the only way firefighters could stop it was to break the glass. Only Cruise staff can take a car out of autonomous mode. The same thing happened in June 2022. San Francisco put this in a letter to regulators because Cruise and Waymo want to expand driverless service. The fire crew’s emergency override is a rock.
