More than 12 billion accounts accept passkeys, and until now there was no standard way to take them to another provider. The fix, the Credential Exchange Protocol and Format, is a working draft “not yet intended for implementation.” Apple, Google and Microsoft sit in the group writing it. Passkeys shipped first and the exit door is still a draft.
