“No survivor of domestic violence and abuse should have to choose between giving up their car and allowing themselves to be stalked and harmed by those who can access its connectivity and data”
Carmakers sold GPS tracking and remote start as conveniences and never built a way to cut an abuser out of the account. The FCC is now asking them to describe what they offer and how a survivor gets separated from a shared plan. Its own notice asks what proof a survivor has to bring when the car is in the abuser’s name. The industry built the stalking tool and the burden lands on the victim.
