“The FCC’s Enforcement Bureau announced that 2,411 voice service providers failed to properly file in the Robocall Mitigation Database and must show cause why they should not be removed.”

The paperwork asks carriers to describe their STIR/SHAKEN status and their plan to stop scam calls, and 2,411 of them didn’t bother. Lying on the filing would cost a base fine of $10,000. Letting it go stale would cost $1,000, and the annual filing fee is $100. The FCC calls this its largest such action, which says how little the rule was enforced before.
