“Federal agents executed a search warrant at the home of a Washington Post investigative reporter, seizing notebooks, phones, and devices.”

Press freedom in the United States is a function of norms, not law. The norms have been eroding for a decade across multiple administrations and the line is now in a different place than it was. Raiding a working journalist’s home is the kind of action that used to draw a press conference from the Justice Department explaining why. Today it draws a single-page warrant return and a wall of silence.
