“In one of the cases seen by researchers at Bitdefender, a malicious Facebook page impersonating Midjourney amassed 1.2 million followers and remained active for nearly a year before it was eventually taken down.”
Attackers hijacked an existing Facebook profile in June 2023 and turned it into a fake Midjourney page. It pushed a desktop version of the tool that doesn’t exist and dropped Rilide, Vidar, IceRAT and Nova stealers, with ads aimed at men aged 25 to 55 in Europe. Facebook shut it down on March 8, 2024. A replacement page hijacked from another user had 637,000 followers by March 26. Meta’s own Ad Library showed the targeting the whole time.
