“The syntax of the Typst language is way closer to Markdown than it is to LaTeX.”
Typst writes a heading with = and a list item with -, where LaTeX wants a backslash macro for nearly everything. It reads BibLaTeX bibliographies, so the reference files survive the move. Its scripting layer runs loops and functions to generate tables without a macro package. It still renders to PDF, so the output is just as hard to edit as anything LaTeX ever produced.
