Brussels is doing what no American legislature has been able to do, which is regulate dark patterns out of consumer software. Whether it works is a different question. The platforms will sue, find loopholes, and pivot to whatever pattern the law forgot to name. The fact that they have to keep pivoting is itself a tax on the bad behavior. That is what regulation looks like when it is written with teeth.
