Europe spent years talking about digital sovereignty, then built its government ID wallets on top of the two American gatekeepers it claims to be fighting. The wallets lean on Apple and Google’s device attestation, which hands both companies a veto over what runs and a fresh chokepoint on public infrastructure. You cannot lecture about breaking up Big Tech monopolies while wiring your national identity layer straight into them. This is sovereignty theater.
