The Work Number holds weekly pay records for 105 million US workers. Equifax pointed it at its own staff, interviewed 25 people and fired 24. It booked the $3.2 million as savings. Most of the people in that database never agreed to be in it, and Equifax sells the same lookup to anyone’s employer.
