““It sounds crazy, but the Chinese embassy has actually called the police about a bomb and mentioned our names,” Jingyu told Vlaskamp after he spent a day going over his story with police.”

Someone made bomb threats against the Chinese embassy in The Hague in the names of Volkskrant journalist Marije Vlaskamp and dissident Wang Jingyu, then booked them hotel rooms next door. The embassy dutifully called the police, and parts of The Hague shut down. The sender claims to speak for the Chinese state and makes no effort to hide it. The Dutch foreign ministry asked the embassy for clarification, which is asking the arsonist where the smoke came from.
