Trackers and demo tools got their look from teenagers with no UI training, no money for commercial software, and a lot of time. The piece does not pretend the results were good. ProTracker is easy to misclick and easy to misread. Worth reading for how much interface design got decided by people who cracked the paid tool and rewrote it.
