“In a paper published today in Nature, we describe how we can successfully control nuclear fusion plasma by building and running controllers on the Variable Configuration Tokamak (TCV) in Lausanne, Switzerland.”

A reinforcement learning controller shaped plasma inside a Swiss research tokamak. That is a real result, and a narrow one. TCV is a small research machine, not a power plant, and controlling the plasma was never what kept fusion from producing net energy. Expect the press to merge “AI” and “fusion” into one headline anyway.
