“Following the 2022 General Resolution about non-free firmware, we have introduced a new archive area making it possible to separate non-free firmware from the other non-free packages: non-free-firmware”

Bookworm ships 64,419 packages after 1 year, 9 months and 28 days, with 11,089 new and 6,296 dropped. The real change is the new non-free-firmware area, and an installer that “may enable non-free-firmware where needed.” It took a General Resolution to admit that hardware does not boot on principle. The vendors who refuse to open their firmware won, and Debian filed the surrender in its own archive section.
