“When an AI technology determines the expressive elements of its output, the generated material is not the product of human authorship.”
The Copyright Office’s line is simple. A prompt is not authorship, because the model picks the words, the rhymes and the structure. Applicants now have to disclose AI content and disclaim it, and anyone already registered has to file a correction or risk cancellation. Type a prompt and the output belongs to nobody.
