Detroit police found seized iPhones in their evidence vault rebooting on their own, some of them in Airplane mode. Their theory is that iOS 18 phones whisper to each other and trigger the restarts. The boring answer is the one Apple shipped in iOS 18.1: an inactivity reboot that drops the phone back to Before First Unlock. A phone that locks itself after sitting untouched is doing its job. The only people calling that detrimental are the ones holding someone else’s phone.
