“Hidden fees are fees in which a seller uses an artificially low headline price to attract a customer and usually either discloses additional required fees in smaller print, or reveals additional unavoidable charges later in the buying process.”
SB 478 bans mandatory fees hidden behind a low headline price, starting July 1, 2024. Bonta says these fees cost Americans tens of billions of dollars a year, on concert tickets, hotels, restaurants and food delivery. That gives sellers nine more months of drip pricing. The law does not ban the fees. It forces them into the price, where the customer can see what the seller wanted all along.
