“Every part of California is free of drought conditions for the first time since 2001, per the US Drought Monitor.”
California spent a quarter century in some form of drought, watching reservoirs drop and aquifers collapse. Then a couple of wet winters lined up and the maps cleared. The good news is the maps cleared. The bad news is the underlying climate trend has not, and the next dry decade is on the calendar. Twenty-five years from now this will look like the brief good period before things got harder again.
