“There’s over 1,400 different systems that have gotten the Artwork Treatment, a major success.”
The Internet Archive now runs graphing and simple calculators in the browser through MAME, drawn as clickable photos of the real hardware. MAME’s volunteers spent over 25 years emulating tens of thousands of machines. The artwork layer that makes these usable is built by hand from photographs, one device at a time. Preservation runs on unpaid people who care, and the Archive is asking for more of them.
