“Fishing built Brixham. It was Brixham men who pioneered deep-sea trawling in the nineteenth century, taking their distinctive sailing trawlers around the coast.”
Brexit was sold to fishermen as taking back control of their own waters. Brixham believed it. Years later the boats are still tied up, the quotas still pinch, and the promised golden age never showed. The people who campaigned hardest for it got the worst of the deal. They were the marketing, not the beneficiaries.
