“Strikingly, these motor commands, despite not being executed, shift the internal representation of direction as if the animal had turned.”

The mouse superior colliculus issues motor commands during REM sleep, like turn left, that never reach the muscles. The brain’s sense of direction shifts anyway, as if the animal turned. A sleeping mouse runs its internal model of the world and acts inside it. This is a preprint in mice, not a theory of human dreams.
