Pixium’s Prima retinal implant sits in 47 people’s eyes. The company went broke before its own trial results came in, and Neuralink cofounder Max Hodak’s startup Science bought the assets for an undisclosed sum. The last company to do this, Second Sight, went under in 2022 and left Argus II users in the dark. Patients carry the hardware for life. The companies only last until the money runs out.
