“Currently, 80 to 90 percent of what’s going into Ascend’s Covington facility is scrap materials from battery factories, including SK Battery America’s plant in Commerce, Georgia.”
Ascend Elements says its Georgia plant can process 30,000 metric tons a year, the packs from 70,000 EVs. Almost none of it is old EVs. The input is factory scrap from a battery plant down the road, because there are not enough dead EV batteries yet. Ascend now pays for spent batteries, and federal money is doing the rest.
