“That’s 7.3 Million IPv4 addresses x $43.80, almost $320 Million a year. At 25% usage, that’s nearly $800 Million a year. And at 31% usage, that’s a billion dollars!”

AWS owns almost 128 million IPv4 addresses, 27 million more than three years ago, worth about $4.5 billion at $35 each. Starting February 2024 it charges $0.005 per hour for every public one, $43.80 a year. Only 57% of the pool shows up as allocated to AWS services, so this is no shortage. AWS calls it encouraging customers to be frugal. Customers call it a new line item worth up to a billion dollars a year.
