“AT&T has acknowledged that a data leak making the rounds online contains information from more than 7.6 million current customers and 65 million former customers.”
The first reports of this leak surfaced in 2021. AT&T only admitted the data was real after TechCrunch told it the encrypted passcodes were easy to decipher. Social security numbers, birth dates and account passcodes for more than 72 million people have been on the dark web for weeks. AT&T says it has no evidence of unauthorized access to its systems. The remedy is a passcode reset and a pointer to free credit bureau fraud alerts you could already get yourself.
