A thoughtful, careful, well-illustrated piece on a topic almost nobody needs but everyone who tries to do it gets wrong. The kind of writing the open web rewarded fifteen years ago and barely rewards now. Worth reading if you have ever tried to render an image to a terminal and ended up with something that looks like a melted typewriter.
