It’s seen that way because that’s how it’s sold. Nobody raises billions by promising to make mathematicians happier. The ballet comparison is nice, but ballet survives on donors and subsidies. Math departments will get the same funding logic. A human proof becomes a hobby once a machine produces the result for less.
