Apple will let developers distribute iPhone apps from their own websites. To qualify you need two continuous years in the Developer Program and more than a million EU installs last year, and the app still goes through Apple notarization. A startup with a new app is shut out by definition. Apple opened the side door only to companies already big enough to pay at the front.
