Google Research wants a provably secure OS for smart devices, built on the seL4 microkernel and written largely in Rust. The pitch is mathematically verified security for ambient ML gadgets. The release can’t run third-party apps yet, and the secure hardware design isn’t out either. Google’s record on finishing new operating systems is not great.
