“There’s absolutely no justice right now in our system.”

Anchorage prosecutors have dismissed over 930 misdemeanor cases since May 2024. That includes 250 domestic violence cases, 270 DUIs, and 70 child abuse cases. A woman with severe facial injuries from her partner’s assault had her case dropped after four months. A five-year-old allegedly beaten with a belt and wire saw charges dismissed. The office went from 13 prosecutors to 9 while Alaska’s speedy trial clock kept ticking. Many victims were never even told their cases were thrown out.
