“The CPSC says Amazon failed to adequately notify the public about more than 400,000 recalled products.”
The CPSC ruled that Amazon is a distributor and owns recalls on its marketplace, third-party sellers included. Amazon told buyers of faulty carbon monoxide detectors and flammable children’s pajamas about a “potential safety issue” instead of calling it a recall. It handed out gift cards without asking for the product back or proof it was destroyed. Amazon wants the marketplace without the liability, and it plans to appeal.
