Only 8.9% of sites block AI crawlers, but 94.8% are never cited in AI answers

Sites hand over their content and get nothing back. Gemini names a business 2.9% of the time, Claude 1.6%, and the rest of the field rounds to noise. The blocking numbers show how badly site owners understand the deal: 38 sites block GPTBot, only 4 block OAI-SearchBot. They are blocking the training crawler and leaving the retrieval agent that actually serves live answers wide open. That is backwards if you want traffic, and backwards if you want to be left alone.
